Highland
Highland cattle were developed in the western Highlands of Scotland and the outlying islands. This breed has remained unchanged for the last 200 years. The Highland Cattle Breed Society was founded in 1884 with the first herd book animals registered in 1885.
Generally they are reddish brown or golden all
over. Highland are small framed with long, shaggy hair, a short broad head with
long horns curving out and up and short legs.
Robust, tolerant of severe weather, undemanding, long-lived they mature late.
They produce top quality meat.
